This Privacy Policy applies to the mobile application “Calorie counter and Food scanner — Scanfood” (also listed as “Счетчик калорий и сканер еды — Scanfood”), available on Google Play under the package name com.metaproject.scanfood and on the Apple App Store as ScanFood (bundle identifier com.scanfood.scanfood), together referred to as the “App”, and to the website appscanfood.com (the “Website”).

We may change or update this Privacy Policy as we add new features or as the law changes. Unless another date is given, changes are effective upon posting on this page.

Information we collect

When you use the App, we collect and process the following data:

Account data. When you create an account we collect your e-mail address and a password (stored in hashed form). Your account is used to sign you in and to keep your data in sync.
Profile and goals. Information you enter about yourself to receive calorie recommendations: gender, age, height, weight, activity level, and your goal (lose, maintain or gain weight).
Nutrition data. Meals you log, barcodes you scan and food photos you submit for recognition. Food photos are uploaded to our servers for automatic recognition and are associated with your account. They are used only to provide the food-recognition and progress-tracking features and are not shared publicly.
Health and fitness data (optional). With your explicit permission, the App can read data from Health Connect (on Android) or Apple Health (on iOS): exercise sessions, active and total calories burned, and basal metabolic rate. This data is used solely to show your activity and to improve the accuracy of your daily calorie balance inside the App. Health Connect and Apple Health data is never sold, never used for advertising, and never shared with third parties. You can revoke this permission at any time in your device settings.
Usage and diagnostics data. We use Google Firebase (Analytics and Crashlytics), AppMetrica and OneSignal (push notifications) to understand how the App is used, to fix crashes and to send you optional notifications. This data consists of app interaction events, device information and crash logs.
Purchase data. Subscriptions are processed by Apple (App Store) or Google (Google Play Billing). We do not receive or store your payment card details.

How we use the information

To provide the App’s core features: calorie counting, food recognition from photos, barcode scanning and progress tracking.
To calculate personal recommendations based on your profile and goals.
To maintain, protect and improve the App and to diagnose crashes and errors.
To respond to your support requests.

Information sharing

We do not sell your personal data. We do not share your personal data with third parties, except for the service providers listed above (Firebase, AppMetrica, OneSignal, Apple, Google) to the extent necessary to operate the App, and except where required by law. Food photos are processed by our servers and trusted AI processing providers solely to recognize the food on the photo.

Data retention and deletion

Your data is stored for as long as your account exists. You can delete your account and all associated data at any time directly in the App (Profile → Delete account) or by following the instructions at appscanfood.com/delete-account.html. You can also request deletion by e-mail at [email protected].

Children’s privacy

The App is not directed at children under 13. We comply with the Children’s Online Privacy Protection Act (“COPPA”): we do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13, and if we become aware that such information has been collected, we will delete it in a secure manner.

Subscriptions

Parts of the App require a paid subscription. Payment is charged to your Apple App Store or Google Play account at confirmation of purchase. Subscriptions renew automatically unless auto-renewal is turned off at least 24 hours before the end of the current period. You can manage or cancel your subscription in your App Store or Google Play account settings.

Cookies (Website)

When you visit our Website, we may use cookies to store user preferences and analyse usage. Most browsers allow you to disable cookies or alert you when cookies are being sent.

The Website may contain links to third-party websites. We are not responsible for the privacy practices or content of these third-party sites; this Privacy Policy no longer governs once you leave our Website or App.
